Last night I was fortunate enough to be able to attend the “Something Something Something Dark Side” premiere party at Seth MacFarlane’s “Winter Wonderland”, in the Hollywood hills. The movie, which comes out on video next week, is the “Family Guy” parody of The Empire Strikes Back. The night was going to be pretty cool, and the only problem was the rain – there were torrential downpours in the Los Angeles area. Luckily, there were lots of tents and covered walkways to take care of that issue.
Ron Jones and a 60-piece orchestra were going to be performing, and it was gonna be one heck of a show. They played some great big-band jazz numbers, as well as a few more orchestral bits.
It was definitely a “Hollywood” party – lots of familiar faces were there, including Bill Maher, Kevin Pollack, Seth Green, Zack Braff, Donald Faison, Wil Wheaton, Levar Burton and…. Paris Hilton.
Seth, being a big film music fan, arranged for a live performance of “Anything Goes” as performed in Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom – in Chinese, with tapdancers!
In addition to that, Seth got up to sing a little bit….
… and then, to tie into the whole Empire Strikes Back and Christmas-theme of the night, Darth Vader and some Stormtroopers came out to dance a bit.
All in all, it was a heck of a fun evening, with some amazingly good food – and alcohol! (Oh, much, much alcohol!) And after a four-hour set, if you can believe it, Ron and the Influence Jazz Orchestra will be playing on Sunday night at Vitello’s Upstairs, with Seth. Troopers, indeed!
