Something Something Something Dark Side Premiere Party

Dan Showbiz

Last night I was fortunate enough to be able to attend the “Something Something Something Dark Side” premiere party at Seth MacFarlane’s “Winter Wonderland”, in the Hollywood hills.  The movie, which comes out on video next week, is the “Family Guy” parody of The Empire Strikes Back.  The night was going to be pretty cool, and the only problem was the rain – there were torrential downpours in the Los Angeles area.  Luckily, there were lots of tents and covered …

Session Mania

Dan Showbiz

After nearly a month of no scoring sessions, I’ve suddenly found myself at a whole slew of them this week.  Saturday was Rolfe Kent’s Up in the Air; Monday was the aforementioned “King of the Hill” finale; Tuesday and Wednesday were Debbie Lurie’s Dear John; Thursday was A.R. Rahman’s Couples Retreat and Alan Silvestri’s A Christmas Carol; and finally tonight was Brian Tyler’s Law Abiding Citizen.  Next week I believe I’ll be popping by Danny Elfman’s The Wolf  Man, and …

Tenerife

Dan Showbiz

Well, it looks like next Tuesday I will be headed to Spain – more specifically, the island of Tenerife in the Canary Islands off the coast of west Africa.  I’ll be attending and covering the Fimucité 3 International Film Music Festival for SoundtrackNet.  Confirmed guests so far include Clint Mansell, Mark Snow, Jan A.P. Kaczmarek, John Ottman, and Joel McNeely.  It should be a fun time and I’m looking forward to it!

A Visit to the Skywalker Ranch

Dan Showbiz, Travel

This was a very long – but great – day.  Added a photo gallery to the bottom of this post, for your enjoyment.  Went to bed really late, and yet I still managed to drag myself out of bed at 5:30am so that I could head up to the Burbank Airport.  Got there a little earlier than planned, so I stopped in to Starbucks for some caffeinated goodness.  At 7:30, I met up with Ray (the publicist) and then everyone …

Heroes for Autism

Dan Showbiz

Tonight I went to the charity event “Heroes for Autism“. Sponsored by Autism Speaks, the event was a noble one to raise money and awareness of Autism.  There was an open bar and food before the show started, and I got a chance to rub elbows with many of the celebs there.  And there was an open bar.  The event was hosted by Rainn Wilson of “The Office”, and most of the cast of “Heroes” showed up, including Robert Forster. …

April Fools!

Dan Showbiz

This year’s April Fools joke for ScoringSessions.com was a pretty simple one: a news item about Danny Elfman’s score to Terminator Salvation.  See, he is scoring the film, so that part isn’t unusual. What is unusual is the idea that he recorded it with just a ukulele.  Check out the fake pix, and be sure to listen to the “score clip”! (Thanks to Nathan Whitehead!)

Brian & Stewie

Dan Showbiz

Today I went to a table read for a new “Family Guy” episode, which will likely air next year.  It’s a really funny episode called “Brian and Stewie”, and deviates from the usual formula, as it consists of just the two characters locked in a bank vault for the entire episode – no flashbacks or cutaways, or other characters.  So it was just Seth MacFarlane talking for 40 minutes.  Awesome!
