Blue Ginger

Dan Boston

For my dad’s birthday we went to Blue Ginger, an upscale Asian-fusion restaurant in Wellesley. Really good stuff – my appetizer were Shiitake-Leek Springrolls with Three Chile Dipping Sauce – truly awesome.  The main course I got was Mom’s Famous Three Vinegar Sautéed Organic Shrimp, which came with Roasted Garlic Mashed Potatoes and Spicy Asparagus Salad.  I gave the asparagus to my grandma (I’m not a fan), but the big surprise of the dish was the absolutely mind-bogglingly tasty and heavenly balsamic reduction …

Downtown

Dan Boston

Popped back on the T this morning to travel downtown to meet Joey for lunch.  I hadn’t been down there since the Big Dig had been completed a few years ago, and the elevated freeway had been dismantled.  So, I was rather surprised at how impressive and pleasant the whole area is now – it’s like a big open European pedestrian walkway! Lunch was at Legal Sea Foods (hey, you can never get enough!) but I was trying to be …

Second "Seder"

Dan Boston

Tonight we had the second seder at my parent’s house. It wasn’t really a seder, since it was just six of us, and we skipped the whole “order” thing (which is the point of the seder, really).  We did, however, enjoy more of the same food from the previous evening.  The brisket was truly phenomenal. Need to figure out how to make it myself!

Back Bay

Dan Boston

Met up with two high school friends, Mike and Jeremy, for coffee in Back Bay at a neat little bookstore cafe on Newberry Street.  Was very nice catching up with them, but Mike had to go back to work, so Jeremy and I stayed and grabbed some lunch to catch up some more – we hadn’t seen each other since 1996!  It was a gorgeous day (forgot my camera, sorry!) and we walked down through the Boston Commons to the …

Japanese Passover

Dan Boston

OK , it really wasn’t a “Japanese Passover”, per se.  I did, however, get lunch with Sam, Liz and Josh at Fugakyu Cafe, which was quite tasty and satisfying.  Also saw Liz and Josh’s Natick house, which was really nice! Passover came later in the evening, which was also good – they split the party up into two tables: Over 40, and Under 40.  So the Under 40 table (which I was at) was with my cousins, and I think …

Legal Seafood

Dan Boston

What better way to celebrate a safe arrival in Boston than going to Legal Sea Foods? Their clam chowder is heaven in a bowl!

No WiFi to Boston

Dan Boston

Landed in Boston a few minutes early.  Flight was smooth and uneventful. Turns out they didn’t have WiFi on this plane even though the Virgin America website said it was supposed to. Oh well!  Watched about five hours worth of “How I Met Your Mother”, season three.  Very enjoyable show!

Heading to LAX

Dan Boston

I woke up way too early (or so it feels), and was picked up by SuperShuttle to take me to LAX for my flight to Boston. I’m now relaxing at the gate, about two hours before my flight.  The good news? I’m flying Virgin America!  So that means I will (supposedly) have an outlet at my seat, to allow me to watch the many hours of televison that I have on my laptop to entertain me. Failing that, I have …

Packing for Boston

Dan Boston

Yep, it’s that time of the year again – Passover!  I’m flying to Boston in the morning, which means I’ve spent tonight packing up and whatnot.  I haven’t been back since Labor Day for Andrew and Annie’s wedding, so I’m looking forward to seeing family and friends.  I had a momentary panic when I couldn’t find my keys (they fell between the sofa cushions, which was the last place I looked, of course), but otherwise it went pretty smoothly.  Everything is …

Bus to Logan / Admiral's Club

Dan Boston

My older sister took me to the bus station, since my niece didn’t want to join us.  She decided that she would rather watch The Little Mermaid: Ariel’s Beginning than go with me to the station.  Sheesh!  The bus ride itself was rather uneventful, but I was crammed and didn’t have much leg room.   I got to Logan with about 3 hours before my flight.  I decided, given the shenanigans endured last week, that I would spring for the Day …
