Airport Preserve Woes / Flight Back to Los Angeles

Dan Nashville (2009)

We left the dam, to head to the airport, but before we did, I managed to get a nice picture of the thunderstorm clouds off in the distance. We got to the airport around 4:30pm, so we had a little time before the flight. There was a chance that we might have had to check a bag, but we managed to get everything set up as carry-on.  Unfortunately, it turns out that the peach preserves I bought at Loveless aren’t …

Rain in the Woods / Priest Dam

Dan Nashville (2009)

As we headed away from the Loveless, we came across the Edwin Warner Park. After that kind of meal, it sounded good to take a walk. It made sense, being a preserve, that no animals were allowed in the park. But no plants? Weird. After walking for about 15 minutes or so, the rain suddenly started coming down – hard. We rushed back to the car, and dried off – laughing all the way. We then drove in an arc …

Loveless Cafe

Dan Nashville (2009)

After moseying for a while, we arrived at our destination: The Loveless Cafe There was a sizable crowd there, and we were told that our wait would be about 80-90 minutes. Apparently that’s pretty typical for a weekend, so while Justin and Phil explored the shops, Penka and I decided to go for a drive further south.  We went only about 12 miles or so down the road, through Fairview, TN.  Along the way, we passed through a few rain …

Centennial Park / Belle Mead

Dan Nashville (2009)

After breakfast, we all packed up and checked out of the hotel. Being Sunday, pretty much everything touristy was closed until the afternoon, so we decided to just drive around a bit. Our first stop was Centennial Park. The park is the location of the 1897 Tennessee Centennial Celebration, and to commemorate the event, a full-scale replica of the Parthenon was built. Of course, it was closed. So we just walked around the lake, looking at the ducks and Canadian …

Cocktails / F. Scott's

Dan Nashville (2009)

The choir session went splendidly, and we did indeed use the fourth hour.  After everyone packed up their stuff, we headed back to the hotel.  Justin and I decided to partake once more of the complimentary cocktails, and after and hour of chilling and chatting, Phil and Penka joined us, as well as Greg (the mixer) and his girlfriend.  We went off to F. Scott’s Restaurant and Jazz Bar, an upscale place about 4 miles from the hotel.  It was …

Second Day of Scoring in Nashville

Dan Nashville (2009)

After breakfast, we all headed back to Ocean Way Nashville, and had a very successful string session for the “Nimitz” project.  There was even a bit of time left over before the end of the session, so some wild tracks were recorded with string effects. I even got a chance to make a suggestion or two – we’ll see if any of them get used! (They sounded pretty cool though!) Lunch was southern country food that was catered: beef brisket, …

Three Down, One to Go

Dan Nashville (2009)

Before bed last night, I hit the elliptical machine in the fitness room for a little over half-an-hour; it certainly helped not only make me tired enough to go to bed, but also made me feel not as guilty about the meal! Woke up again at 6:30am; way too early for me on a Saturday, but I’ll manage. At breakfast today, they happened to have the next item on my checklist: biscuits and gravy. (When I found out I was …

Cocktail Hour / Lower Broadway / Jack's Bar-B-Que

Dan Nashville (2009)

After relaxing at the hotel for a bit, Phil and Justin and I met up downstairs to see what this cocktail reception thing was all about. Apparently, you show your room key and photo ID (yes, I got carded!) and you get a free drink.  No stated limit either, just one at a time. So we all relaxed and drank, and then when everyone came down, we hopped in the car and drove down to Lower Broadway. We found some …

Clouds

Dan Nashville (2009)

Two different photos for you.  The first one was taken last night during the flight from Dallas to Nashville; the second one was taken from the hotel window here in Nashville.

First Day of Scoring in Nashville

Dan Nashville (2009)

I woke up before the alarm went off at 6:30, but finally got up around then. Met up with Phil and Justin for the Continental Breakfast down in the hotel lobby at 7:15am (I had a small sampling of grits – I think that’s all I need!), and Penka joined us a little after that.  Then we drove over to the Ocean Way Nashville studios.  I’m attending the recording session for Justin’s score to a walkthrough exhibit on Admiral Nimitz, for …
