Sunday: Brooklyn Breakfast

Dan New York City (2010)

After sleeping in, Mike and Kyle and I headed out to get some brunch.  The need for caffeine took us to Blue Bottle Coffee, interestingly the same company whose excellent coffee satisfied me when I was in San Francisco. From there we went to The Bagel Store, where the toasted everything bagel with scallion cream cheese was exactly what I had wanted with the H&H Bagel. Advantage: Brooklyn. We chilled for a bit at Kyle’s, caught up on SNL, and …

Saturday: Manhattan Memories

Dan New York City (2010)

Woke up earlier than my alarm was set, mainly because of text messages coming in to start figuring out the plan for the day.  I headed into Manhattan to meet up with Drew for some breakfast.  We met up near Penn Station, and walked down to The Dish, in Chelsea, where we grabbed some breakfast. I got the lox, eggs and onions and it was quite good, but it was no Barney Greengrass. After that, we decided to check out …

Friday: All Over the City

Dan New York City (2010)

Woke up early this morning (7:30am!) to get up and ready so I could work my way uptown to meet Sean and Shira for breakfast at H&H Bagels.  I got there a little before 9am, and realized when I arrived that this particular location – the factory on 46th Street – didn’t really have much of a storefront with service; sure you could buy delicious bagels, but they wouldn’t even toast – or slice – them.  We had to buy …

Thursday: Italian Day

Dan New York City (2010)

If there’s one thing that NYC has no shortage of, it’s diversity.  Cultures from all over the world can be found throughout the city, and anyone who so chooses can learn and enjoy the breadth that the world has to offer – through their food.  Unofficially, Thursday became Italian Day. After sleeping in just a tad, I got my morning coffee fix at Grounded, over in the West Village.  I had a pumpkin latte (since it was a little chilly …

Into the Big Apple

Dan New York City (2010)

The flight was pretty uneventful; it took about 5 hours, and we landed right on time, around 10pm.  It took 20 minutes to get off the plane and through the terminal to the AirTrain, where which I took to the Howard Beach station.  I got the 7-day “unlimited” pass for the MTA, since I’d be taking advantage of it, and then hopped on the A-train to work my way to the Chelsea area, where I’d be staying at my friend’s …

Taking a Bite out of The Big Apple

Dan New York City (2010)

I’m off to New York City today, for the first time in (I think) over six years.  The weather here in Los Angeles is appropriately terrible; thunderstorms and pouring rain.  In NYC, it’s raining right now as well, but the next few days are supposed to be gorgeous – sunny and in the high 60s/low 70s.  I’ll be attending a book signing on Thursday, and a concert on Friday night; look for more details as they happen. I’ll also be …
