Roasting Elfman

Dan Showbiz

So tonight was the BMI Film & Television Music awards. The evening was a blast

. After tossing on my tuxedo, I met up with Jonathan Broxton (of FilmmusicUK), and we headed over to the Beverly Wilshire Hotel, in Beverly Hills. During the pre-dinner reception, we chatted with a number of composers and industry folks. I found it particularly amusing to note that most of the composers whose websites I either created or host were present.

Composer Danny Elfman was to receive the Career Achievement award that evening, and I got a picture of him with Family Man and Red Dragon director Brent Ratner. After some schmoozing, the dinner began.

Here’s composer Mike Post receiving what must be his 378th BMI award. The presentation went pretty quickly, and soon it was time for Elfman to get his big award.

After a hysterical video tribute (including Sam Raimi, Tim Burton, Gus Van Sant, Barry Sonnenfeld, and Brent Ratner), Elfman was called up to the stage, where Sonnenfeld and Ratner were on hand to “roast” him. And so, here is a nice photo of Elfman with his BMI award.

Making the evening one to remember, was the presence of Corey Feldman. Yes, after five years in Los Angeles, I finally have my Corey-sighting. Yes, that Corey. Not the other one. Seemed like a nice guy, too.

Here’s a shot of all the BMI Award winners on stage. Ultimately, it was a fun evening, and I had some nice chats with Danny Elfman, Lalo Schifrin, Don Davis, Christopher Young, John Ottman, Harry Gregson-Williams, Mark Mancina, Graeme Revell, and a slew of others.
