Went to see Cold Creek Manor with Matt tonight. It wasn’t exactly what I had hoped it would be. The trailers made it out to be a moody mystery/thriller, when in reality you’re pretty much told right off how it’s going to play out. So, there’s no mystery. And the parts that are mysterious really don’t have anything notable or gripping about them.
Mike Figgis serves as both director and composer on the film, and at times he should have told himself not to score the film the way he did. His main theme is a solid one, hinting at the suspense and thrills to come. But they never come. What does come is a lot of low-end piano banging that made me cringe. It’s like, what on earth….? When (if?) the soundtrack comes, I look forward to half of it. The other half I dread with more suspense and fear than the film itself provided.
No, I’m not even going to get into the storyline, the acting, etc. etc. The pacing was plodding – this needed to be tighter. Actually, it needed to be rewritten, but that’s a whole other ball of wax. In the end, I don’t think you have any reason to see Cold Creek Manor. You can probably get more thrills and excitement from cleaning up your living room.
