Party of the Christ

Dan Goldwasser Showbiz

Tonight we braved the pouring rain to work our way up to Burbank, where Lola Debney was throwing a surprise party for her husband, John. John got an Oscar nomination for Best Score for Passion of the Christ, so this was definitely gonna be a big shindig. I just wasn’t aware of how big it was gonna be!

A live band, amazing catering (with the best ginger chicken wontons ever), and a four-foot high Oscar statue cake for dessert. Yes, it was that big, and I hope to get pix soon (to go on Debney’s site). Some of the more notable guests were: vocalist Lisbeth Scott, composer Nathan Barr, agent Richard Kraft, publicist Ray Costa, Head of Music at Warner Bros. Doug Frank, actor Jim Caviezel, Director of Photography Caleb Deschanel, composer Aaron Zigman, orchestrator Pete Anthony, composer Don Davis, music contractors Pete Rotter and Sandy DeCrescent, master cellist Steve Erdody, record producer Robert Townson, and more!

Suffice it to say that the party was a lot of fun, John was genuinely touched and surprised when he arrived, and it was a great evening. We’ll see how the Oscars go next week!
