A Kiss at the End of the Rainbow

As a nice special treat, David and Gaby went with me to the Hotel Cafe, where about a year and a half ago I went to see Michael McKean and Annette O’Toole perform. Well, they were back – in perparation for a two-week performance at Feinstein’s in New York, they had a dry-run rehearsal tonight for a private audience. It was mainly friends and family, including Christopher Guest and wife Jamie Lee Curtis, actor Fred Willard (“Wha Happened?”), and a few other people who looked familiar, but I couldn’t quite place.

The performance was good – McKean and O’Toole were joined by their daughter on stage, and she actually (dare I say) stole the show at times! The songs ranged from funny, to touching, to suggestive. Annette’s mandolin playing has definitely improved since I last talked with her – she didn’t even play it on stage at the time! Of course a few songs were from A Mighty Wind, including their Oscar-nominated song, “A Kiss at the End of the Rainbow”. It was a nice hour of music, and much enjoyed.
