SIGGRAPH 2005

Dan Computers

Got a free “Exhibits Only” pass to SIGGRAPH last week, so I decided to check it out today. Chad came down from the Valley, and we headed on over to the Los Angeles Convention center. Overall, it was a so-so experience. It seemed like a slow year – Apple and Adobe had small presences – large demonstration areas, but almost NO hands-on stuff. It took a while to find ILM, and Digital Domain was tucked away in the corner. I couldn’t find Discreet – until I discovered that they were merged back into Autodesk. Saw Rick Baker wandering the halls, too, which was kinda funny. In the end, swag opportunities were severely limited, and to add to the frustration, turns out that our passes were not eligible for the “Emerging Technologies” exhibit. Damn. At least I was able to get a limited-edition bronze “walking-teapot” from Pixar.
