Had a long day today, but it involved lunch with a friend in Culver City, a scoring session at Sony, and then I went to the Isituto Italiano di Cultura in Westwood, where the Italian consulate was honoring Ennio Morricone, who will be getting an honorary Academy Award on Sunday. He’s the second composer to ever receive the honorary Oscar (Alex North was the first), and while he might not care that much (he’s on the record as saying he never wanted an Oscar), he’s certainly working the scene! I was in the minority, with 95% of the people there being Italian nationals, speaking Italian. I found the small group of film music folks, and we huddled together in the crowd as Dino DiLaurentis and Clint Eastwood honored Morricone for his work. What fun! Then it was off to the valley to hang out with Chad and a few others for “guy’s night” – beer, pizza and video games! Woohoo!
