Opening Night Reception

Dan Goldwasser Spain (2006)

I hadn’t eaten since lunch, and David hadn’t eaten much at all on the flight, so we (along with John Scott and Nancy) were taken to the reception early – the rest of the guests would be joining us shortly, since the conference was running a tad late. The reception was held in the courtyard of what used to be an orphanage/hospital, again 14th century. The foot was tapas style – lots of small platters to pick from. Unfortunately, and as one could have predicted, they were 95% pork-based. Wow. I mean, I know i was warned about the pork in advance (and last night’s dinner was certainly an indication), but I had no idea it would be this much! Turns out, also that David is a vegetarian – so they ended up bringing out some beans, mushrooms and artichokes. Oy. At least the cheese was good for him too! I enjoyed the pate and these little smoked salmon-wrapped white asparagus rolls, and did also have a little bit of the pork. The other guests arrived and the evening ran late – I’m supertired and going to bed at 1:45am. Tomorrow will be my first day at the conference, having missed most of the events today, but the fruits of my labor (the Tribute to Basil Poledouris video) will be shown in the evening, so I’m looking forward to seeing how it all turns out!!
