After a bit of confusion and then a non-dinner (I had a small nibble at the hotel), we headed to the theater where the evening’s “GoldSpirit Awards” would take place. Basically, this was the “Favorite ____ of the year” awards. Best Action Cue, Best Dramatic Cue, Best Comedy Score, Best etc. There were a bit too many of them, with some overly long video segments, so the thing ran quite literally into the wee hours of the morning. (11pm – 2:30am!) There was a break for intermission, and then afterwards, a few more awards later, they finally showed the Tribute to Basil Poledouris. Running about 15-20 minutes long (I didn’t time it), the piece was comprised of interviews I had shot with many of Basil’s collaborators and family. I didn’t edit it together (I filmed the interviews) but it was a very well done piece. It’s clearly a work-in-progress though, and I hope to be able to film some of the missing gaps before next year’s conference.
By the time we finally got out, it was 2:30am, and I went back to the hotel to sleep – but some people stayed out (apparently) for the 3:30am chocolate pastry festival, or something like that. I have no idea, really – I was just too tired!
