Chicago to Madrid to Tenerife

Dan Goldwasser Spain (2009)

After a relaxed break in Chicago, I flew on Iberia Airlines to Madrid. It’s an 8 hour long flight, and for the most part it was fine – I just relaxed with my iPod, and even got some sleep. However, apparently in the last month or so, they have an additional in-flight beverage service added to the schedule….. 1 hour before breakfast.  Which means, at the crack of dawn, the lights suddenly came up just to offer me a drink.  Annoying!!

We landed in Madrid on time, and then I went through customs (welcome to the EU!) and from there I made it to the gate where I would then board another flight to Tenerife.  I was greeted by the mother-of-all-lines, which quickly (and blessedly) thinned out once boarding actually commenced.

Line to Tenerife

The nearly 4-hour long flight was uneventful, and we landed in the Canary Islands around 10:30am local time.

I was picked up and taken to the Hotel Taburiente where I will be staying, and after freshening up, now it’s time to get the day going! (It’s only noon here.) I feel surprisingly energetic after 21-hours of travel with (likely) only about 4 hours of sleep.  I might change my tune later though!
