The La-La Land Records expanded release of Maurice Jarre’s score to A Walk in the Clouds marked the first time that I had been asked to do the art direction for an album that I had nothing else to do with (as a producer or writer). I had not seen the film, or even heard the original album, but I knew that it was a romantic film, and so I figured it would be good to go ahead and create an album package that felt light and airy, and used the photos provided by Fox to best effect.
I had a bit of trouble with the cover; we were sent the DVD/Blu-ray cover artwork, which looked nice and contemporary, but we felt it would be better to go with the original theatrical key art. However, the tall art didn’t lend itself to a square album cover, and sadly – like the original Milan release that preceded ours – we had to crop a significant amount of imagery from the top and bottom because there was no ‘extra’ material on the sides. I’m still happy with how it came out!
