Dog Poo and Rudeness

Dan Israel (2007)

There are two things about Israel that are worth commenting on at this point on the trip. The first one is the apparent inability for dog owners to curb their dog. Even though there are “no dog pooping” signs all over the place (and even one street corner which provides a big sandbox for dogs to crap in), there is dog shit all over the place. It’s one thing to have dog feces on the yard or between the sidewalk …

Down to Tel Aviv

Dan Israel (2007)

We drove down to Tel Aviv in the late morning, and settled in at my sister’s apartment. After relaxing for a bit, we walked down to the beach for lunch at the London Cafe. The food was rather large in their portions (no surprise here, it seems) and so I split a burger with my grandma. It was quite delicious. Then we walked a little bit before heading out to my cousin’s place, in the suburbs of Tel Aviv. It …

Hitting the Mall

Dan Israel (2007)

Didn’t sleep too well last night; it was very hot and stuffy in the guest bedroom, and the fan was just blowing stale air around. I think I’ll sleep in the living room tonight. Went to the mall to go shopping for my sister, and my niece wanted me to carry her a lot. It’s nice that she demanded I do it, but she’s getting heavy! Relaxed some more in the afternoon (there are a lot of naps going on), …

Haifa

Dan Israel (2007)

First full day in Haifa was rather low key – after breakfast at the hotel, went to my sister’s place, where we all just hung out and relaxed. After everyone came back home (and my older niece was picked up from pre-school), things got a little more tumultuous. Complicating things is the face that my niece understands English, but doesn’t speak any of it. So I have no idea what she’s saying even though she’s speaking quite a bit. It’s …

Nonstop Flight to Tel Aviv

Dan Israel (2007)

Flew from Los Angeles to Tel Aviv, nonstop via El-Al Airlines. The flight was rather uneventful, made more comfortable by the lack of a person in the middle seat between me and the gentleman on the aisle. That allowed us to stretch out a bit for the flight. The flight took a different route than I’d flown last year, this one taking us up over Yosemite, Boise, Calgary, the Hudson Bay, Greenland, down over Copenhagen, Poland, Istanbul(!) and Turkey, before …
