Photos from my last day in Spain
23 Hours on the Road
After breakfast in the hotel, I met up with Nancy who would be on the same flight to Boston as me. At 10:30am (Madrid time) we were driven to the airport, where I checked my bags in through LA, and only at the gate did I notice that my seat – which I had reserved (and confirmed!) at 9L (window seat) was now 22G (middle seat). Hmm. According to the lady at the counter, the flight was full, and nothing …

A Somewhat Disappointing End
After a very nice Italian meal with Fernando (yay pasta!), we walked around the area a little bit while trying to reach the other conference coordinator on his cellphone – but kept getting voicemail. That meant that not only did we not get to meet up with the others for dessert, but I basically didn’t get to say goodbye to (or speak for more than five minutes with) the person who I had been working with for the past few …
The Return to Madrid
After waking up at 9:15am, I was packed, fed, and ready to head out around 10ish, which is when I was picked up. We headed to the Casas del Consul, where we were to pick up the Powells and two other folks for the drive back to Madrid. But apparently we were delayed for a bit, since it didn’t make sense to get people to the airport 4 hours before their flight – so we hung out for a bit …

The Old City / Flamenco Night
So I hitched a ride back to the Las Casas del Consul hotel, and then got some excellent gelato with Laura Engel, John Powell and David Arnold. Then they headed off back to the hotel and I continued on my way to the old part of the city. The sun was setting, and I was hoping to get some good pictures. Unfortunately the sun set faster than I had planned, so after about 45 minutes of wandering the old twisting …
Lazy Sunday
I slept until I woke up – which was only 11am. So I went back to bed, and my alarm went off at noon. I hit snooze twice before resetting my alarm to 1pm. That’s when I woke up. Obviously having missed breakfast, I was taken to the CD signing which was still going on, 2 hours later (it was now 2pm). I hung out there for a bit, and then we were taken back to my hotel where there …

The After-Party
So even though the concert ended at 2:30am, there was still a big reception/party to be had. Now maybe that sounds unusual, but when in Spain….. I had to go anyways, since my laptop was back at the Las Casas del Consul, where the reception was being held. They had a lot of things that looked like desserts – but upon closer inspection, turned out to be…. tapas. With pork. Of course! By far the funniest one was the cheese …
