Airport Preserve Woes / Flight Back to Los Angeles

Dan Nashville (2009)

We left the dam, to head to the airport, but before we did, I managed to get a nice picture of the thunderstorm clouds off in the distance. We got to the airport around 4:30pm, so we had a little time before the flight. There was a chance that we might have had to check a bag, but we managed to get everything set up as carry-on.  Unfortunately, it turns out that the peach preserves I bought at Loveless aren’t …

Flight to Nashville via Dallas

Dan Nashville (2009)

Was out for drinks with some friends last night, so I made sure to pack in advance of that.  However, I ended up getting to bed late – and woke up around 7:30 to make sure that I could have some coffee and be ready to be picked up by Phil and Penka to be  taken to LAX.  We got to the airport around 10:15am, and since we were all doing carry-on, it was pretty fast going through security.  An …

Missing Baggage / Chicago to Los Angeles

Dan Spain (2009)

Getting through passport control was pretty fast, and then I waited with Ray for our luggage to come off the plane.  Nancy had gotten her bags pretty quickly, and had already gone to the Admirals Lounge by the time I got there.  We waited, and more and more bags came off the carousel – but not ours. Eventually it all stopped – and our bags were nowhere to be found.  Talking with the Iberia representative revealed that we could file …

Tenerife to Madrid to Chicago

Dan Spain (2009)

We got to the Tenerife Norte airport just before 6am, and there was a large crowd gathered outside – apparently the terminal didn’t even open until 6!  When it did open, there was a bit of a mad rush to get in line at the various counters, and we then had to wait for the Iberia counter to open.  Finally I got my luggage checked through to Los Angeles, and my boarding passes. Unfortunately it looked like I was going …

Chicago to Madrid to Tenerife

Dan Spain (2009)

After a relaxed break in Chicago, I flew on Iberia Airlines to Madrid. It’s an 8 hour long flight, and for the most part it was fine – I just relaxed with my iPod, and even got some sleep. However, apparently in the last month or so, they have an additional in-flight beverage service added to the schedule….. 1 hour before breakfast.  Which means, at the crack of dawn, the lights suddenly came up just to offer me a drink. …

Los Angeles to Chicago

Dan Spain (2009)

Woke up this morning at the crack of dawn – 5am – and it was still dark outside.  SuperShuttle picked me up at 6:15am, and I got to LAX just before 7am.  There was a travel crowd the likes I’ve not seen in a long time.  I stood in line for about 15 minutes, waiting to check in, when I noticed that the Departures display noted that my particular LA -> Chicago flight was delayed…. by 40 minutes.  Assuming it …

Dan Spain (2009)

If there’s one thing I don’t really like about travel, it’s the packing aspect. I’m only going to be gone for six days (including two days of travel!), but I have to figure out what the weathers is going to be like, and dress-code requirements, and things like that.  Not to mention my cameras, chargers, adapters, and the rest of all that stuff.  The most important thing, of course, is my passport. I’m being picked up tomorrow morning by SuperShuttle …

Power Loss

Dan Boston, X-Files

Am switching to PST, so that it’s “live” blogging now.  We’re still in the air, about 675 miles from Los Angeles (currently over Colorado).  About an hour or so ago, the power outlet in my row (and the row in front of me and behind me) decided to stop working.  So I’ve been steadily draining my laptop battery as I actually get some work done.  Hopefully I have enough juice left to finish the uploads….. I can’t say that I …

High Flying WiFi

Dan Boston, Internet

I’m on the airplane now…. we took off on time, no problems at all. I managed to move my seat after take-off, so now I have my own aisle. Yay! Oh…. and there’s Wi-Fi on the flight.  Kickass!
