Jennifer 8

Dan Audio Projects, Graphic Design

My latest album project is music from the 1992 psychological thriller, Jennifer 8.  The original score by Christopher Young is one of his most beautiful and haunting ones, and had been released previously by Milan Records at the time of the film’s release.  For this new album, we let Chris “re-visit” the score, and put together a new assembly that is similar in some areas to the Milan release, but different in others.  Additionally, we have a second disc of …

A Symphony of Hope: The Haiti Project

Dan Websites

Just launched the website for A Symphony of Hope: The Haiti Project.  The brainchild of composer Christopher Lennertz, the idea was to take 25 film composers and create a symphonic work based on a traditional Haitian melody. Proceeds from sales of the resulting album will be sent to the Hands Together charity to benefit Haitian earthquake victims.  I built the site with a WordPress framework, and heavily modified a pre-existing template. The biggest challenge on the site was to connect …

Drag Me To Hell

Dan Movie Reviews

After the critical trouncing that was Spider-Man 3 (it was a box office success admittedly), director Sam Raimi returns to his horror roots with Drag Me to Hell.  This film is over-the-top, campy, relies on cheap thrills, and is never dull.  Translation: I loved it. It’s a welcome return to the genre that made Raimi a cult director, and it has everything in it that I wanted to see. Loan officer Christine Brown (Alison Lohman) really wants the Assistant Manager position at …

Spider-Man 3

Dan Movie Reviews

The first big film of the summer, Spider-Man 3 has been highly anticipated for a while, and many people are clamoring to see what happens in this next chapter in the saga of Peter Parker. Taking place where the second film left off, Parker (Toby Maguire) is hoping to ask his girlfriend Mary Jane Watson (Kirsten Dunst) to marry him – but everything seems to get in his way. His ex-best-friend Harry Osborn (James Franco) is out for revenge for …

Ju-on: The Grudge

Dan Movie Reviews

Japanese horror director Takashi Shimizu really hasn’t done all that much. He made a direct-to-video film called Ju-on in 2000, and then made a sequel to that. Then he made a feature film, called Tomie: Re-birth. After that, he went back to Ju-on and made two feature films based on it. The premise of Ju-on: The Grudge is that if a person is murdered in a violent fashion, their spirit will remain and take it out on others – who …

The Core

Dan Movie Reviews

What on earth can one really say about The Core? That it is filled with enough junk science to make the average man’s head throb in pain? That it has some laughably predictable moments in a rather formulaic sci-fi plot? That it contains a brilliant performance ripe with overacting by Stanley Tucci in the role of a smarmy holier-than-though genius? That they mention Carnegie Mellon before MIT? Well, yeah. I guess that’s what I can really say about the film. …
