Bailing on Breakfast / Whiskey Pete's / Return to LA

Dan Goldwasser Vegas

Woke up at 8am.  By 9am most people were awake and showered and kinda ready to go – but not everyone.  Jeb and I went downstairs to get in line for the buffet at Paris, but the line was just as bad as it was yesterday. Gah!!  Plan B: no breakfast in Vegas; eat elsewhere.  So we went back upstairs, finished packing, collected everyone, and then checked out of the hotel and were on the road by 10am. We drove …

Wrapping up the Evening

Dan Goldwasser Vegas

We crossed the street to the Mirage, and went inside and walked through the casino to get back out to the Strip.  Walking down past Caesar’s Palace, it started to rain a little bit.  We got to the Bellagio just in time to watch the fountain show, but were told that it was too windy to commence.  Gah!  We went back to the Bally’s so Adam could drop off his camera, and then we headed back to the Bellagio to …

Rushing to the Venetian / Wynn

Dan Goldwasser Vegas

Adam’s Blue Man Group show started at 7pm, but he had to pick up the tickets by 6pm to make sure he could get entry. So he, Danielle and I walked quickly up to the Venetian, and got there in the nick of time to get him his tickets.  We then had about 40 minutes to eat, but finding a suitable spot was tricky – everything was gonna take too long, or needed a reservation. In the end, we ended …

Drinking the Eiffel Tower / Bellagio / Planet Hollywood

Dan Goldwasser Vegas

While a few folks were down at the pool, Jeb and Arianna and I decided to mosey over to the Bellagio to check out the casino (they hadn’t seen it before), the botanical gardens (all fall themed!) and the fountain show.  Before we headed there, though, we walked to Paris where we bought “souvenir” Eiffel Towers, that came with a “free drink”.  The enormous Pina Colada was tasty (and alcoholic) and would take the next two hours to slowly finish …

MGM Misadventure

Dan Goldwasser Vegas

Adam wanted to see Blue Man Group, so we hopped in the car to head down to the MGM Grand so he could get tickets for tonight’s show. Unfortunately, after parking and walking throught the (nearly endless) mall and casinos, we finally got to the front desk, where we confirmed that indeed the Blue Man Group was playing NOT at the MGM Grand, but at the Venetian. A fools errand. Gah! We walked around there a little bit, then hopped …

Brunch Challenge

Dan Goldwasser Vegas

Woke up around 8am, but got up at 9. The challenge was to get everyone (eight of us) to breakfast in a reasonable fashion. At 10:30 (yes, seriously) we were in the Disneyland-length line for the breakfast buffet at the Paris casino. But at 11 they switched the menu to brunch and the price suddenly jumped more than $10. Screw that! We ended up at Bill’s Saloon next door to Bally’s, where we ate in the somewhat questionable Victoria Room. …

Fondue and Late Check-In

Dan Goldwasser Vegas

We got to Vegas around 9pm, so it wasn’t too bad – five and a half hours, including traffic and two stops for breaks. We went to dinner at The Melting Pot, which was tasty with fondue and salad. We decided to forego dessert and get something in Vegas after we check in at the Bally’s. Check-in was fast and we were going to go check out the Fremont Street Experience, but… is shuts down at midnight. Gah! Instead we …

Vegas, Baby, Vegas!

Dan Goldwasser Vegas

I am currently in the car driving as we approach the state border of California and Nevada. To celebrate his birthday, my friend Adam decided he wanted to do a weekend getaway in Vegas. So he, his girlfriend, a friend of hers, our friend Jeb and I all piled into Jeb’s car. Since Jeb had come down from Santa Barbara, I drove the first half to Barstow. Admittedly, it was a much linger “half” than it should have been; Friday …
