A Symphony of Hope: The Haiti Project

Dan Goldwasser Websites

Just launched the website for A Symphony of Hope: The Haiti Project.  The brainchild of composer Christopher Lennertz, the idea was to take 25 film composers and create a symphonic work based on a traditional Haitian melody. Proceeds from sales of the resulting album will be sent to the Hands Together charity to benefit Haitian earthquake victims.  I built the site with a WordPress framework, and heavily modified a pre-existing template. The biggest challenge on the site was to connect …

I Love You, Man

Dan Goldwasser Movie Reviews

It seems that comedies are tricky these days. Either you have to do something so outrageous that you risk offending the audience (whereby the laughs come more from shock value than humor), or you debase yourself and go for the cheap joke merely to get a laugh.  Films like There’s Something About Mary made sure that plot was as important as the jokes, which is why for every film like Knocked Up, we get a slew of forgettable comedies like Along …

Tropic Thunder

Dan Goldwasser Movie Reviews

In Zoolander, Ben Stiller tackled the fashion industry with his satirical take on male modeling.  Now he turns his sights on Hollywood and war films, with the biting satire, Tropic Thunder.  When three of Hollywood’s biggest actors come together to film the “true story” of Vietnam veteran “Fourleaf” Tayback’s (Nick Nolte) heroic escape from a POW camp, everything goes wrong.  Action star Tugg Speedman (Ben Stiller) is banking on the film to jumpstart his floundering career after a misguided attempt …

Went to see Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story with Jeff tonight, over at Fox. It was the cast and crew screening, with the premiere having been last night. Bumped into Larry Elder on the lot; I thought he was there to see Dodgeball – turns out he was there …

Starsky and Hutch

Dan Goldwasser Movie Reviews

Wow, has it been almost 2 months since I last saw a film in the theaters? With a combination of shoddy films, and bad screening schedules, I just haven’t been able to make it to any movies lately, or haven’t been motivated enough to go. However, with Starsky & Hutch, I was interested enough because, well, Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson can be funny. But unfortunately, while the movie had plenty of chuckle moments, there were very few full-blown laughts. …
